After an amazing time in Eleuthera, we made our way over to explore the Exumas for a while. Our first stop was to Staniel Cay and soon became one of our favorite spots in all of the Bahamas. Here’s why!
#10 – Visit Pig Beach
This is an obvious reason because social media has really blown up these cute little piggies! Be careful though, some of the large ones aren’t that nice. Take a look at a post I wrote earlier this year about their origin – Swimming Piggies
#9 – Feed the Iguanas at Bitter Guana Cay
Iguanas are not native to the Bahamas but you can see them all over these islands similar to the piggies I mentioned previously. They enjoy fresh produce and are completely harmless.
#8 – Go Shelling Around Surrounding Beaches
We love finding new shells for our collection and have been making souvenirs for our family and friends from the ones we find. Get their early in the morning to find the best variety!
#7 – Schedule a Boat Tour Around the Exumas
Although we are typically on our own boat, we highly suggest renting a fast boat to get around other surrounding areas or take a boat tour from some of the locals. They are truly the best guides and will expand your knowledge of the wildlife and other Exuma islands.
#6 – Enjoy a Relaxing Beach Day
One of our favorite things to do is relax in a hammock on a secluded beach. It will be hard to find an area to yourself here but getting a day of fun in the sun is always important on a vacay!
#5 – Drink a Kalik or Try Some Bahamian Rum
Kalik is our favorite beer in Bahamas but there are so many awesome rums to try too! This area has plenty of yachts to party on, who knows who you’ll meet!
#4 – Take Pictures with Nurse Sharks
These sharks live underneath the docks here and are plentiful when fisherman gut their catches near the yacht club. You’ll see them resting there throughout the day and can take pics with them as long as they aren’t being fed. So cool!
#3 – Paddle Around the Anchorage
The scenery in this area is beautiful to kayak through with all sorts of wildlife and millions of dollars in surrounding boats.
#2 – Eat Great Food at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club
Their food is absolutely delicious. Any meal of the day, you’ll be happy with what they have to offer. Some favorites – Lobster Salad , Fresh Catch of the Day, and their Tacos. Oh! You can get a boxed lunch for any excursions you may have planned too!
#1 – Snorkel the Thunderball Grotto
One of the most popular areas to visit in all of the Bahamas, this area has some of the most friendly marine life and will make you feel like you’re a real life mermaid. Try to go when there isn’t many others around for the best experience. The swim isn’t too difficult but be aware of the changing tides and current. Please don’t jump from the top, it’s eroding the sides and could dwindle the grotto away eventually. Such a beautiful place <3
